Vitamin C - Immune Booster and Cancer Fighter
Admin • Oct 10, 2022

About Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant with impressive benefits including immune enhancement, protection from viruses and bacteria, cardiovascular protection, eye diseases and even skin wrinkles. Here are some of the impressive health benefits:

  • Boosts immunity: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your body’s natural defenses and boost the immune system. It helps encourage the production of white blood cells which help protect the body against infection and viruses.
  • Can kill cancer cells: High doses of Vitamin C can kill cancer cells - acting in a manner similar to chemotherapy.
  • Improves skin health and appearance: Because it's highly acidic, when vitamin C is used topically the skin is triggered to heal itself by accelerating the production of collagen and elastin which help keep skin plump and firm.
  • Protects against heart disease: Vitamin C has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease by lowering heart disease risk factors, including high blood levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • May help manage blood pressure: Vitamin C has been found to lower blood pressure in both healthy adults and those with high blood pressure.
  • Can prevent gout attacks: Vitamin-C-rich foods and supplements have been linked to reduced blood uric acid levels and lower risk of gout.
  • Helps prevent iron deficiency: Vitamin C can improve the absorption of iron that is poorly absorbed, such as iron from meat-free sources. It may also reduce the risk of iron deficiency.
  • Protects your memory: Low vitamin C levels have been linked to an increased risk of memory and thinking disorders like dementia, while a high intake of vitamin C from foods and supplements has been shown to have a protective effect.

Vitamin C Sources

The best way to get Vitamin C is through your food. Some of the best sources are citrus fruits, green vegetables, berries and squash.

Another way to get Vitamin C is through a high quality, natural supplement. As long as you stay within recommended dosages, supplements are safe to use. Vitamin C is water-soluble which means the body can flush out excess that it doesn't need. Side effects from too much Vitamin C are rare but may include diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

The type of supplement you take really matters! Be sure to read your labels carefully when selecting supplements as many brands are poorly absorbed and contain artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners as well as fillers and bulking agents. Although they seem inexpensive, most will not produce the results you want because most "over the counter" supplements contain only a fraction of the active ingredient. Here at Science Based Wellness we carry only pharmaceutical grade supplements that are lab regulated.
